Psychiatry
Certain ailments are due to psychological problems like mental, emotional and behavioural disorders. Diagnosis, treatment and prevention of these disorders constitute psychiatry. Psychiatrists are qualified to assess not only the mental aspects but also the physical aspects of psychological problems.
People seek psychiatric help for many reasons.
- The problems can be acute, such as a panic attack, frightening hallucinations, suicidal ideation, or hearing “voices.” (or)
- Long-term, such as feelings of hopelessness, sadness, or anxiousness that make everyday life distorted or out of control.
Based on some diagnostic tests which are unique vis-s-vis the discussions with patients help psychiatrists provide a picture of a patient’s physical and mental state. Co-relating the results, we understand the complex relationship between emotional and other medical illnesses, and their relationships with genetics or family history, evaluate medical and psychological data, make a diagnosis, and treatments are planned in discussion with the patient.
Treatments offered here are for a variety of psychological ailments – including various forms of psychotherapy, medications, psychosocial interventions (like interpersonal relationships, substance abuse etc) and other treatments depending on the needs of each patient for all age groups.
