Screening even when asymptomatic
Gastroenterology
Sammprada advises you to visit Gastroenterologist, if you have any symptoms of a digestive health disorder or if you need a colon cancer screening. Digestive health disorders could include, rectal bleeding, bowel movement urges that are hard to control, diarrhoea, changes in bowel habits, abdominal pain or bloating, oesophagal pain or loss of appetite or weight.
Beginning at the age of 50, you should get a colposcopy done every 5 years to detect colon cancer early when it’s easiest to treat. Depending on family history and other conditions, your doctor may decide on reducing the frequency.
Apart from early detection of colon cancer, Gastroenterologist will treat:
- hepatitis
- gastroesophageal reflux (heartburn)
- peptic ulcer disease
- colitis
- gallbladder and biliary tract disease
- nutritional problems
- Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), and
- pancreatitis
In a nutshell, all diseases of the digestive organs are treated in Gastroenterology.
Most of these diseases could be managed medically while some may require intervention depending on the condition. But if interventions are required, we have Laparoscopic surgery (keyhole surgery) and Specialists.
